Gael is a small but influential island in southern Kesh, near the Dream Kingdoms. It has only two large settlements; Gael-tora, little more than a fortress with a town to support its staff on the eastern tip of the island, and Gael-amad, a sprawl that blankets much of the northern coast. The rest of the island is barren. Its southern cliffs are notorious for the nesting sirens, which lure unseasoned sailors to their death should they pass too close.
Gael-amad is the largest city on Gael, second only to Parn-tora in southern Kesh. It is the most densely populated city in Kesh. Gael-amad is the only Keshian city in the region at which ships from the Dream Kingdoms will call.
Merchant Families and Houses
Gael-injau does little to interfere with the merchant council that governs Gael-amad. The identity of each member of the council is a secret known only to the upper echelon of the house or family he represents.
Each house is responsible for policing its own territory. Though a “common law” is enforced, each house may have additional laws and taxes unique to its territory in the city. There are nine major trading companies and hundreds of lesser ones.
